Materials and Craft
Handwoven from natural elephant grass sourced from northern Ghana. Each lampshade is handwoven using traditional techniques passed down through generations, meaning no two pieces are identical.
Elephant grass is naturally lightweight, durable, and fast-growing, making it one of the most sustainable materials available for home lighting.
How to Use Your Lampshade
Designed for pendant light fittings. The lampshade fits over a standard pendant bulb holder and creates warm, diffused light that brings natural texture and calm to any room.
Suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas and entryways. Use with a low-wattage LED bulb only, avoid halogen or high-wattage bulbs which generate excess heat that can damage the natural elephant grass fibres over time.
Origin & Impact
Every lampshade is handwoven by women artisans in northern Ghana. Your purchase directly supports skilled craftspeople, preserves traditional weaving heritage and contributes to sustainable livelihoods in local communities.
Ethical production, low environmental impact and made entirely without machines.
Lampshade Care Guide
- Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth or a soft brush to keep the weave clean.
- Use only low-wattage LED bulbs, recommended to protect the natural fibres.
- Handle gently when fitting or removing to avoid pulling the weave.
- Store in a dry, ventilated place if not in use to protect the natural fibres and shape.
Sizing Guide
Nokupa lampshades are handmade, meaning dimensions may vary slightly from the measurements listed. Available in three shapes, oval, round and triangle, each creating a different light pattern and visual effect in your space.
If you are unsure which shape suits your space best, the round shade gives the most even light distribution while the oval and triangle shapes create more directional, atmospheric lighting.
