How to Reshape a Woven Basket — Elephant Grass Basket Care Guide

Your handwoven elephant grass basket may arrive folded after shipping, but it is easy to restore.

Follow these simple steps to reshape your woven basket and keep it looking beautiful for years.

How to Reshape Your Basket

  1. Wet thoroughly — Soak your natural woven basket completely to soften the elephant grass fibres and handles.

  2. Reshape by hand — Gently mold your handwoven basket back into form using your hands. No tools needed.

  3. Dry naturally — Place in the sun or a warm spot and allow to dry fully while holding its shape.

Woven Basket Care Tips

Do not machine wash or tumble dry your natural storage basket.

Avoid rubbing vigorously as this may damage the weave.

To clean, gently scrub any marks with a soft sponge and mild soap.

Treat the leather trim occasionally with a small amount of leather conditioner to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking.

All handwoven Bolga-style baskets benefit from occasional reshaping. In order to help maintain the strength and flexibility of the elephant grass, fully immerse the basket in water once a year. Allow to dry and its ready to use again.

Do not overload as excess weight can distort the weave and strain the handles over time.

Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade the natural sisal color over time.
